Depends on if your iMac uses an Intel or PowerPC processor. Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard only supports Intel processors. To find out which processor your Mac has, select "About This Mac" from the Apple menu - a small window will appear listing information about your Mac, including its processor and the amount of RAM your system has. If it says anything with "Intel" in it next to Processor, your system can be upgraded to Snow Leopard. If it says "PowerPC G4/G5", your system is ineligible.

Also, the $29 upgrade pricing for Snow Leopard is only for users who are currently running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. To upgrade from 10.4, you will need to purchase the Mac Box Set, which also includes iLife '09 and iWork '09.
