No, you just need to update to Snow Leopard (10.6), and then update to 10.6.8 through software updates. From there you will gain the Mac App Store which you will be able to buy Mountain Lion. There are some prerequisites for ML, which you may find at Apple's main site, go to "Mac" tab, choose Mountain Lion, and Tech Specs next to the "Upgrade Now" button. Your computer must be one of the supported models, as well as having 2 GB of RAM.

  • No, assuming your Mac is compatible with Mountain Lion, you can skip Lion and go directly from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
