Answer
The requirements for Snow Leopard are:
1) Intel-based Mac,
2) 1 GB Ram,
3) 5 GB of available disk space,
4) DVD drive.
The requirements for the Mac Box set are:
1) Intel-based Mac,
2) 2 GB Ram preferred,
3) 12 GB of available disk space,
4) DVD drive.
You do not need the Mac Box Set to "upgrade" from Tiger. The $29 single license Snow Leopard install disk will install over Tiger, over Leopard, and over a freshly formatted partition or hard drive.
Personally, I installed Snow Leopard on a fresh partition and imported all Tiger settings, applications and files. That way, I can reboot from the Tiger partition in case something doesn't work. The only difficulty I experienced with Snow Leopard was some obscure printer drivers didn't install properly (this is now resolved) and some stability issues with Safari and Adobe CS3 when I updated to OS 10.6.4. Tiger's Garageband, iPhoto, etc work with Snow Leopard.
Google "Mac Box Set System Requirements" (or search on Apple's website) to get the full list of requirements for various components of Mac Box Set.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouver
