The last OS version the iMac4,1 can support is Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8.

(The late 2006 models (iMac5,1 and iMac5,2 and iMac6,1) will support Lion OS 10.7. But your iMac is a bit older.)

Snow Leopard is only available on disk. To order go to:
    USA: storeDOTappleDOTcom/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Canada: storeDOTappleDOTcom/ca/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
(replace "DOT" with "." in the url addresses above).

After installing and starting up in Snow Leopard, go to "Software Update" under the Apple menu, and do Software Updates until Snow Leopard is at OS 10.6.8.
