Use AirPort Express (dual band) as base station with older Time Capsule (single band) as range extender?
Can I use a new AirPort Express (dual band) as my primary base station in place of my older Time Capsule (single band), then use the Time Capsule to extend the range of the Airport Express? Would this give me use of both bands from the Express for my other devices? Would wireless Time Machine backups to the Time Capsule still function with this setup (via the Express)? Are there any other implications?

I had the same question, and was not able to find an answer so I just did it. Seems to work really well.
If I hook up the (old, single band) TC and use the APE to extend, I get like 3-5mps
If I hook up the APE and extend with the old TC I get like 30-35mps download speed.
And the network seems to have no problem seeing the disks.
works awesome.- Answered by Fred D from Seattle
