can i replace my existing wifi modem with an airport express base station?

i was just wondering because my existing wifi modem is only 802.11bg while the airport express base station is 802.11n

    No, the Airport is not a modem. It is a router. That means you have to plug from your existing modem into the Airport. The purpose of the Airport is to convert your wired modem into a wireless signal. If you already have a combo modem/wifi router then this device will not replace it. It may be capable of boosting your signal strength if you are having a weak wifi signal in your home though. NOTE: research compatibility of the devices first.
