The button is a physical button that lies underneath the touch surface. Press down anywhere and you will feel a physical button clicking. You can also configure it for touch-to-click.

  • I visited the local Apple store (where they don't currently have this in stock) and one of the sales assistants said it definitely does click. But unlike the pad on the MBP, the top part of the pad does not move. Instead, the click switch is on the bottom, and the whole pad "rocks" down slightly to engage the switch. He said the sensation is basically the same, however, so don't let that discourage you.

  • From the product description...

"Because the entire surface of Magic Trackpad is a button, you can click on objects just as you would using a traditional mouse."

  • The trackpad will physically "click" much like that of a MacBook(Pro). However, the "tap to click" feature may be enabled in System Preferences.

  • The unit is a mechanical button, like the existing Macbook and Macbook Pro trackpads. Tap to click can be enabled in the System Preferences.

  • It is mechanical. Very similar to the MacBook Pro line's trackpad, merely larger.
