Unfortunately no the only way to control the apple tv is with the apple remote.

Apple TV can also be controlled using the free Apple "Remote" application downloaded to your iPhone or iPad (or iTouch I assume)

NOTE: You can ALSO use an iPhone, iPod touch and iPad with the Apple Remote application to control the Apple TV. Additionally, you can pair an Apple Wireless Keyboard to your iPhone, and iPad, not sure about and iPod touch though, and use the wireless keyboard to enter text via your iPhone or iPad to the AppleTV.
