Can One apple remote be used for more than one computer, appletv, etc or is it a one for one?

Yes it does. In fact I have three Macs, my iphone, and my ATV2 all in the same vicinity. Have to keep the IR in mind though. Sometimes I trigger several, and then it's just randomness! But better than 5 remotes... Silly though, they need a multi-channel...

I am a fairly new apple user and I know it can happen. I have a MAC and apple TV and when my children have the remote trying to control the apple TV it sometimes controls the volume on my mac it freaked me out one day i had no clue why the volume was going up and i was not near the keyboard.
