with the roller ball mouse i could just press down on the roller ball to see the date, time, weather. how does this function work w/ the magic mouse?

This feature is not supported by Magic Mouse.

This feature is called dashboard. When your last mouse was released there wasn't a keyboard shortcut for dashboard. Apple keyboards now come standard with a dashboard shortcut eliminating the need for it to be on the mouse. My shortcut button is set to the default of F4.
