is there a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter with a longer cord?
it seems in every picture and the one that i have that the adapter is available with only one cord length. it looks like it might be two inches/5cm? is there an adapter with a longer cord?

No, but don't forget it's just an adaptor - it isn't supposed to be a "cord" as well. Because the other side of the adaptor is female VGA, you will still need a male-male VGA cable to run to your screen/projector - and that cable will come in a variety of lengths.
