What do you do when you calibrate? I do not own a sensor yet so please discribe well.

You can select a calibration run of 400m - you run this distance, and the sensor is then calibrated correctly. Or, after any run of a known distance (for instance, a route you have measured on Google Maps, or from a car's odometer) you can enter the distance manually and this calibrates the sensor for you. It's very easy.
