It fits, but the "standing" angle is noticeably more upright. The very upright angle was already the biggest issue with the old mini for me and this makes it worse. I wouldn't recommend it.

  • The 0.3 mm difference in depth unfortunately affects the viewing angle when ipad mini retina sits in keyboard slot making it more upright and difficult to use for typing, probably increases by at least 15 degrees.

  • the ipad mini retina is slightly thicker than the ipad mini, so you would find that the ipad mini retina would have been more upright than the ipad mini, besides i also found that because of the thickness, you won't be able to completely fit the ipad into the magnet slot, so that it's easy to come off.

  • The dimensions of both mini's are exactly the same aside from a difference in depth (or thickness) of 0.3mm.

That's not a big enough difference to keep me from giving it a shot.. it should not affect the way the cover snaps on and will not likely change the viewing angle with docked dramatically enough to make it unusable.

Either way, Apple has great customer support (in-stores) and returning it should be too bad if it's needed.
