According to the Apple support article HT6008:

You can use 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with your MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013) or Mac Pro (Late 2013) computer.

  • No, you cannot drive a 4K display at 60Hz using a 13inch Late 2013 MacBook Pro. Unfortunately it only has the integrated Intel Iris GPU in it. It is however possible to display 4K@60Hz with the 15" MacBook Pro (which has Intel Irs Pro).

As a workaround, you can drive a 4K display at 50Hz with a Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro, but it involves some hacking (creation of custom resolutions with a special tools) and is not supported by Apple.

  • If you use an HDMI cable will display 4k, but only in 30 hz. If you want to have 60hz you will need to use a displayPort cable.
