I need to backup my imac before I install new software as it is not automatically updating the software now. Is the passport hard drive the best thing to use?

You should have no problem with this hard drive as your Time Machine back up. Click on the Apple icon at the top left of your Desktop toolbar, then click System Preferences, then System, and finally Time Machine. Follow the instructions given and your computer should start backing up all your files to the WD Passport. IMHO, these are good little drives.

  • Sorry, I have no idea about backing up iMacs onto Passport drives, or whether a Passport drive is the best one to use. I'm looking for a reliable, large capacity drive, for my Mac Book Pro but from the comments here I don't think I'll go for the 2TB WD Passbook or for anything else that seems so unreliable according to the posts here.
