One Nest device for each thermostat replaced. The Nest allows you to name each device individually then control them individually or remotely, with one mobile app. I just installed three in my house.

  • each nest will only control a single zone--you'd need multiple nests, one for each zone

  • You can use multiple Nest thermostats, so long as the system is otherwise compatible (24V, may require C wire).

  • Having multiple T-stats in your house is an indicator of zone technology utilizing independent heating and cooling of the interior environment. Typical zoning in a residence may be floor to floor separation or public versus private areas of your home ie; living / dining vs bedrooms. Based on the information available from this site it appears that you would need a unit for each control zone.
