Can this be used for backing up an iMac hard drive?
I have less than 200GB of content on my iMac harddrive. Can I use this for backing up through Time Machine?

Answer
This would work perfectly for backing up an iMac. If you don't have a recent iMac, you won't be able to use the ultra-fast Thunderbolt option, but you will still be able to use USB.

Yes, or course! Just be sure that there is less consumed space on your iMac, than what the LaCie drive has as capacity.
You may be limited, though, by how many older/previous versions of larger files are retained, as OS X will delete older versions of file backups as newer ones are added.- Answered by Mike M from Beaverton
