Specs say:Power Power Source: External power supply    Does this mean it needs to be plugged into an outlet vs running off just the USB?

Does it need to be plugged in? It doesn't mention that a power cord comes in the box.

Other models state BUS powered by USB. Which i assume means no power cord necessary.

  • The Apple Store description is wrong.
    There is no external power source needed. It is powered via ONE cable: The USB 3.0 cable (also USB 2.0 backwards compatible).
