if you turn off the alarm clock will it stop the ipod if reading an audio book and start again at the same place?

I want to use an I pod to download audio books for my father but he cannot work an I pod so nee to plug it into a speaker system with a one button control that will turn off the book on the I pod and start again at the same location when he wants to hear more. Any suggestions??
