Is this the right software to work with for page layout etc. for writing my own book, saving it as a PDF and submitting it for final printing?

    Yes, InDesign, that is included in CS6 Design Standard, is page layout software. From that you can use Acrobat to export for final printing, or use the package feature to send the files to the printer as well. This set also includes Illustrator and Photoshop which can be used to create any artwork, or manipulate photographs for cover artwork.
