Can I partition this 4TB drive into two partitions so I have two virtual discs?

    You can shrink, expand, and create new partitions with the disk utility. Make a partition for Macs and another for Windows. But don't partition if you are using this as a time-machine drive, get two drives instead.

    Key advice, if you are new to this, set it up before you store data on it.
