Can I use the USB port on an airport extreme to power and connect this speaker and use it as an airplay speaker?
I like the design of this speaker and I want to use it as an independent Airplay speaker in different rooms in my home. I noticed there is a USB port on the Airport Extreme.

Answer
The USB port on the Airport Extreme is for attaching an external hard drive to share files on the local network.
It is not compatible with Airplay and will not be recognized by iTunes or any Airplay capable devices such as an iPhone or iPad.
You can pick up a used Airport Express for $50 or less that will work, or if you can spring it, consider a new Airport Express as they will be upgradable going forward.
Using an Airport Express has the added advantage of extending your wireless network's signal.- Answered by Michael P from Englewood
