Can I buy 2 of these, plug one into each iMac and connect the iMacs together Via the devices so that I can transfer files between the 2 iMacs?
I just want a faster network speed than I'm getting from my wired Airport Extreme. I'm only using iMacs and MacBook Pros(all 2011)

No, it doesn't work like that. Not yet anyway. There's no networking system currently that utilises Thunderbolt for the Macs or any other computer that I know of. This device can be used, however, with some other equipment like meta-data controllers and fibre-channel switches and storage, and the Apple XSAN software now included in Lion, to build a SAN. A SAN would give you very high-speed storage that you can share with your fibre-channel connected devices, but it can get quite complicated to build and not for the feint-hearted.
