Can I buy 2 of these, plug one into each iMac and connect the iMacs together Via the devices so that I can transfer files between the 2 iMacs?

I just want a faster network speed than I'm getting from my wired Airport Extreme. I'm only using iMacs and MacBook Pros(all 2011)

  • No, it doesn't work like that. Not yet anyway. There's no networking system currently that utilises Thunderbolt for the Macs or any other computer that I know of. This device can be used, however, with some other equipment like meta-data controllers and fibre-channel switches and storage, and the Apple XSAN software now included in Lion, to build a SAN. A SAN would give you very high-speed storage that you can share with your fibre-channel connected devices, but it can get quite complicated to build and not for the feint-hearted.
