Is there a way to protect the data port from moisture/water?

the silicon covers offer some degree of water resistance but not emersion or for wearing in the shower, so if it's gym sweat and the odd splash then that will be fine, as i prove this all the time, but anything more and I'm sure that water will get into the head phone port.
but on saying that, I accidentally washed my iPod, left it in my pocket of my shorts found it when i was hanging it on the line, and after leaving it for a couple of days plugged it in again (to the Computer) once it was fully charged it worked perfectly and its still ticking,,,awesome.
