Shown is the Cinema display. Will the Thunderbolt display work as well? Don't you need the notebook open for Thunderbolt?
I was told the MBP would need to be open slightly to use it w/Thunderbolt.

Shown as cinima display but it will work with thunder old as long as you have a thunderbold port on you Mac these are on all current macs apart from Mac pro that has dvi. And thunder bolt display will work with you laptop open or closed and with MacBook pro you can connect 2 displays.

No. You can use the Thunderbolt display with the MacBook closed. When you close it, the display automatically becomes your primary display.
