Wired Networks
The rest of my household uses a Windows network for our internet. We don't have a wireless router. Will the ethernet connection still work or should I look at investing in Airport?

absolutely, the ethernet will work. just plug it in and your router will see your mac just as it sees pc's. and your family will thank you!!!
