Windows 8.1 with bootcamp on MacBook Pro. i5 or i7? dual core or quad core?

I'm going to be using a MacBook pro for ios and windows app development, using visual studio for the latter.
I'm thinking of i5 8gb dual core, running windows 8.1 using bootcamp, which seems to be relatively cheap and light. Primary uses are development, and some writing and editing, but I do not intend to use it for gaming. Screen size is unimportant because I'll be using an external monitor for development.
In the past, I've used an i7 quad core with 16gb and windows using VMware, for work, and it performed well, but it is an expensive config, and it was Heavy.
Will I notice a significant difference in performance?

Mac
