Yes there is a word processor on the Macbook Pro its called 'Pages' its just like Microsoft Word. You could even buy Microsoft Office if you wish to.
I like to use pages because all of my documents get saved on the icloud and i can get them on my iPhone.

You asked for best and/or simplest.
All Macs include an App in the Applications Folder named "TextEdit". Drag the icon to your Dock and you have a functional Word Processor that's about as simple as possible.
Apple's Pages Word Processor is much more powerful, with many of the features found in Microsoft Word for Mac. I find it to be better than Word for some tasks. It's free with new Macs.
Both of the above allow you to save files as MS Word documents and open Word documents.
If you purchase any new Mac from Apple, or any current model Mac from the Refurbished and Clearance page of the Online Store--all the new version iWork Apps, including Apple's "Pages" Word Processor, are included free. So you will have an excellent word processor, spreadsheet and presentation package.
Apple sells the iWork Apps individually for $19.95 each, as downloads from the Mac App Store, for users with older Macs who hadn't already purchased a license. The new versions of iWork were free for me when I upgraded my old Mac to the new OS X 10.9, because I paid for the previous version.
