is it possible to connect new mac mini with thunderbolt to apple LED 27 inch display with mini display port?

  Yes. This is according to an apple sales rep at the Apple Store. I asked what adapter I would nee to connect an LED 27" Cinema Display (non-thunderbolt) with a mini display cable to a new MacBook Pro Retina Display and he said, "None. Just connect the mini display connector from the Cinema Display into the Thunderbolt port on the MacBook Pro. What you will need is the Magsafe to Magsafe 2 adapter so that you can charge and power the MacBook Pro." The same thing should apply to connecting an LED 27" Cinema Display to a Mac Mini's thunderbolt port.
