How much is the weight of a 13" macbook air, + the lightest external hard drive available for it?

Hello there,

I am a high school graduate looking forward to attending university this coming Fall. I need the LIGHTEST weight combination of both a notebook and an optical drive, yet still be efficient enough for me to do work I get from post-secondary. I am doing double major in the sciences. I am interested in the notebook products and I wanted to ask a couple of questions:

1) How much is the weight of a 13" macbook air, + the lightest external hard drive available for it? Is there an adaptor that goes along with the Air as well? By adaptor, I mean the plug you need to use to charge the notebook. If so, what would the total weight be?

2) Is it possible to get a Macbook with 4GB RAM?
