can mac book support other type of video file extension such as avi,mpeg or rmvb file extension? or other media type?

Its about software. by default, only certain codecs are playable (file extension isn't as meaningful as you would think. containers vs. encoding).
to play the widest variety of files, I suggest either VLC, or MPlayerX. (VLC 2.0 can be modded with blu ray support).- Answered by Adam S from Oxford Mills
