Can i buy iphone 5c off contract since my upgrade isn't until next june? Than add it to my current contract with verizon?

I want to buy the new iPhone C and add it to the contract that I have now with Verizon. Or do I simply order it and give my plan details?

  • TL;DR -- Yes, you can go ahead and buy the 5c whenever you like since you're not signing a contract or anything. Then it's just a phone call or so to Verizon, follow their instructions, and you're ready to go.

Buying a phone off contract means paying the full price for the phone. You can walk right in and pay full price for the phone as many times as you like. Since you are buying the phone outright, you are not tied into any binding contract, so it doesn't matter when you do it.

Now, about the plan. Are you wanting to just replace your current phone with the 5c? If so, when you buy the 5c, the apple geniuses should be able to help you set everything up. It's usually just a phone call to Verizon to get it switched over. No fees or anything associated with changing the phone on your plan. This also should not change your contract end date, so you'd be able to upgrade officially next June, instead of waiting 2 years from the day you buy the 5c.

Note that this is only if you plan on replacing your current phone. You will not be able to use your current phone to call or text once you get the 5c; it will have no service (you can still use wifi and play games, etc). If you want to use both phones, you'd have to add another line to your plan. But I don't think this is what you want to do, so I'll end this here.
