do i need a tv with cable?
the tv in my room is an HDTV but is not actually hooked up so that it plays regular tv, just movies and dvds. Will this still work?

Yes, this set up will still work sans cable tv. You need a wireless internet connection however.

Yes, It'll work. Apple TV does NOT require a normal cable TV. You'll need internet, though.
The Apple TV connects to your HDTV via HDMI, so make sure you have enough free HDMI ports to plug it in!- Answered by Seth C from Bangkok
