Re: Be Warned Video Only
This is a response to CM of Sebring's review: I researched the mini display port and this is what i came across "MacBook Pro (Mid 2010), and MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2010) computers supply an audio signal from the Mini-DisplayPort."
Now this is directly from an apple support page so i know i am not wrong. Not all Mini Display Port to HDMI cables allow the transfer of audio. Since i am not allowed to post the URL, just google mini display port to hdmi with audio and click on the first link you see which is an apple support page. It will explain everything. I hope this is useful to everyone …- Written by Matthew M from Milford

Mini DisplayPort > HDMI > DVI-D not DVI-I
Not compatible with DVI-I. The product does not work for DVI-I plugs, common to many flat screen TVs built in the pre-digital TV t uner era. Nowhere on this site or on the product's packaging does it specify which type of DVI, so before you buy be sure you know whether you need DVI-I or DVI-D.
Product consists of two pieces: 1)Mini DisplayPort to HDMI 2)HDMI to DVI-D. The first adapter connects snugly with my MacBook. The adapter will not accidentally slide out of the MacBook, even with the weight of an HDMI cord plugged into its HDMI output. …- Written by Aaron J from Seattle

Analog Video versus Digital Video
I bought this for my 2009 iMac 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo after replacing a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adaptor by Moshi. It works fla wlessly connecting to my 2nd monitor.
What I failed to realize is that Apple does not make a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI for a reason. Older iMacs that use Mini DisplayPort are pushing out Analog Video. New macs have HDMI ports for pushing out Digital Video. Converting Analog video up to Digital video is an unnatural act and using Moshis Mini Display Port to HDMI was causing all sorts of issues to my system. Although the image was crystal clear on my 2nd monitor using Moshi HDMI adaptor, the process was compromising my iMac. All issues are solved now using This Mini Display Port to VGA Adaptor.
Do yourself a favor if you have older iMacs without HDMI ports. Get the proper adaptor, Mini Display Port to VGA. …- Written by ANDREW V from Centreville

I bought a MacBook in April 2010, is that considered 'mid 2010' or is that an older model that doesn't support audio via Mini DP to HDMI out?
- Asked by Joshua C from Middleton
- Aug 17, 2010
Best Answer
For an unequivocal answer to whether you can output audio through the mini DP:
1. Click on the Ap ple Icon in the top left corner of the screen.
2. Click "About this Mac."
3. Click "More Info."
4. Click on "Audio (Built In)."
If you see "HDMI Output or HDMI/DisplayPort Output" then you will be able to pass audio through the MDP over HDMI.
If not, you will have to use an additional audio cable (headphone 3.5 jack to RCA red and white stereo plugs) running between the headphone output of your Mac to the TV audio input associated with the HDMI port you use. …- Answered by T B
