I used this on United Airlines and it is wonderful!!! Their new Business class and 1st class international airplanes have 20 inch screens and it was great to be able to use my iTouch on these new big screens!!! It kept my iTouch charged and was able to display my videos. Great job to United and Apple!!!!!!!!!!! More

Charges iPhone. Plays media. Terrible A/V sync

    • Written by from Chicago

I'm not sure what everyone else is plugging in with this cable, or what content they are playing but, for me, pretty bad experience.

Coming back from London I got the upgrade to business and thought I'd watch some videos on the in-flight system using the cable. Tried it with my iPad and no-go: no audio, video or even power -- not even the 'Not Charging' notification. Tried it with my iPhone and I got audio, video and power. Unfortunately the video playback was all out-of-sync with the audio -- big delays. I'm sure it's the in-flight system and not the cable, but I don't have access to anything that supports the Panasonic eXport connection as used in their eX2 in-flight entertainment systems. I've used other video cables with my iPhone (composite -- the one with USB power -- & component) and have had no problems with sync.

The cable is very straight-forward and doesn't appear to have much in the way of embedded electronics -- though I could be wrong.

All in all, if you travel on aircraft that support this, and you find yourself having frequent access to them (you get frequent upgrade to international business class or domestic first class or you pay for these), and you want a screen bigger than your iPod/iPhone, it may be worth it to you. I would, however, recommend buying one with a generous return policy so you can try it for yourself.

Based on my experience, I feel like I wasted the $30.

    Convenient, but some quality issues

    • Written by from Naperville

I use this cable all of the time when flying internationally primarily to watch music videos and my favorite TV shows recorded from home. The sound and audio quality is generally pretty good, but there are some issues. I have noticed a lot of spurious noise in the background when listening to quiet passages of music both in videos and audio only recordings. Because the video has to be compressed for the iPod format, it isn't always the sharpest when displayed on the larger seat back screen.

I hope that Belkin or Griffin make one soon to accommodate the higher def format of the iPad.

Does not work on iPhone5 or newer iPod Touch/iPads

    • Written by from Lake Forest

Note even with a lightning to 30 pin adapter this will NOT work for video. It will support audio (which is no different then just plugging into headphone jack on your iOS device).

Tested this on UA/CO and ANA's Panasonic IFE. An earlier gen iPod touch worked right away. It WILL detect the iPhone5 or newer iPod touch but won't show video. Video (analog) is removed from newer iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch so this is NOT a limitation of the cable but a limitation of newer iOS devices when used with products expecting analog video to work.

    Fantastic

    • Written by from Noumea

It's an amazing device, with which you can connect your iPod/iPhone/iPad to your Aircraft In Flight Entertainement System Panasonic eX2.
With it you can play your movies/music or view your pictures on your personnal in seat screen.
it's easy tu use as plug and play.
    Thanks to Apple and Panasonic.
