Features

Apple Recommends For

Enhance the sound from your Mac or MacBook by connecting it to Zeppelin Mini, or stream music using AirPort Express.

Zeppelin Mini is an integrated speaker system from Bowers & Wilkins, makers of the speakers used to monitor the recording of much of the music on your iPod. B&W developed its iPod speakers with the same exacting standards as the speakers that are used in Abbey Road Studios and Skywalker Ranch.

Design

To compliment the iPod user interface, the docking port allows you to grasp your iPod or iPhone as if it were in your hand. It also cleverly accommodates iPod or iPhone models of differing depth through a spring-loaded docking arm that flexes to adjust automatically. The dock also rotates through 90 degrees.

Heritage

At Bowers & Wilkins, the quest to develop the perfect speaker has lasted more than 40 years. The designers are always mindful of the goal to create a speaker that portrays a musical performance exactly as it was recorded, with zero coloration.

Technology

Mini uses two newly developed, full-range, 7.62 cm glass fiber drivers whose uniquely slotted cone and very long-throw “motor” deliver unprecedented range and dynamics for so compact a transducer. B&W's advanced DSP technology maximizes the drivers' abilities to produce jaw-dropping loudness and fullness. And two leading-edge Class D (“digital”) amplifiers ensure plenty of power from ultra-compact, nearly cold-running circuitry.

Multi-purpose USB connection

The USB connection in the back of the unit allows for audio streaming from iPod via docking arm or from a Mac or PC via mini USB connection located on back of the unit. It also allows iPod/Mac/PC sync with iTunes (when Zeppelin Mini is in stand by mode). You can even use it for firmware upgrades with new iPhone/iPod releases.

Simple operation

Plug in Zeppelin Mini, place your iPod or iPhone on the docking port and hit the play button. The connections at the back let you play other sources through the unit. Easily change tracks, volume and mode with the pebble-like remote.

Won't fill a large room with sound like the original Zeppelin but is sufficient for smaller rooms. Just place it in a bookcase or near a wall to magnify the bass. The person who rated it one star should replace the batteries in his/her hearing aid. An excellent unit for those not interested in breaking a lease.

    A Great Sound Machine

It offers similar great sound as the original zeppelin but is cheaper and smaller, so it can be displayed easier. It has a design that stands out from the sea of dull, boxy looking ipod docks and is a breath of fresh air. I recommend this to people who have a tighter budget but are still looking for a great looking, and sounding machine More

Very classy and elegant looking. Materials feel very rich and well put together. Sound quality is amazing through-out the volume range. I am very impressed with the sound no matter what genera of music I play; although I would have to say its bass is not the best seeing that it does not have a external sub. But the highs and mid are incredible! Keep in mind this is an all in one unit that really delivers! Watch out Bose because this one beats you hands down! More

    It just didn't have "it"

I originally purchased another dock (same price) that ended up being a lemon after a week. I returned it & got the Zeppelin Mini as a replacement. I only use it at work and there are no lows (even with the sub port positioned at the corner of a cube) -- and others can hear it and comment on it being just loud enough to be annoying.
The other dock had a nice mix & nobody knew it existed ... plus it had bluetooth & all the cables necessary; you need to provide all the cables (even to update the firmware) with the Mini.
I gave it a 3 because it may be good louder, but it's just not worth the price tag.
I'll be ordering another of the first dock, ok the Audyssey, because it was just *that* much better.

Great sound from a small source.

I purchased the B&W Zeppelin mini for travel. I spend half the year in the Dominican Republic, so I needed something small to bring with me that would produce good sound. I am amazed at the quality od sound reproduction that is coming from this unit! One of my co-workers who is a die-hard Bose fan, came in and heard the music, and remarked that the B&W is better! Now I want the Zeppelin even more! Just can't justify the cost. The cost of the mini though is well within reason and worth it. The sales and service at the Apple store in Bayshore mall, Milwaukee is excellent also! More

Beautiful design and good sound, but only okay with other aspects

I recently bought a Zep Mini for use in my kitchen area. It was absolutely perfect for the space that I have, with the Zep Air being much too big. I love the look of it and the fact that the dock can rotate to show the iPhone/iPod's display in landscape view. The sound is also excellent, with the exception of the low end being only okay. This is just the nature of the beast when you have such a small unit though, and I realize this. I've had a few issues with the inner workings of the unit. I had always planned to use this with my iPhone 4 and when I did there was strange popping noise form the speakers when playing music. Almost like the sound of an electrical short. When I contacted B&W, they assessed that it might be the power supply brick, and shipped me a new one at no cost. However, before the new power brick arrived the sound randomly stopped after doing this for several weeks. I loved the unit after that until the new iPhone 4S came out and I upgraded. As of today, the Zep Mini will not play any music from the 4S and I have also had problems charging the phone on it. I am hoping this is just a firmware update that B&W needs to make, but after contacting them, there has been no word of an update. Note that if you do have the iPhone 4 or 4S, you need to request the docking plate for these phones. The unit comes with plates for all previous iPods/iPhones from the past several years but the newest. These are free, but need to be requested. I still love the unit, but B&W does need to pay some attention to it's software on this product. As of now I have no way to use the Zep Mini until B&W makes another firmware update, which seem to come very slowly. More

I bought the mini-zeppelin for my father at an Apple store. It would not play with his 4th gen Ipod Touch. I took it to the Apple Store Genius Bar. The tech ran an update from the BW website for the mini-zeppelin. That seems to have solved the problem. I am not sure how the Apple store continues to sell these without the update. I imagine there will be many other customers who will be affected by this problem. More

I had the original SoundDock which got stolen so I replaced it years ago with the discontinued Apple HiFi which was excellent for sound quality but doesn't charge iPhone 3G onwards so bought the Zeppelin Mini.

Sound from the Zeppelin is shockingly good in my opinion for a unit this size. Bass is surprisingly clear and doesn't seem to distort as much as you approach full volume unlike the Bose. Treble and mid-range seem to be on a par with the Bose.

    Answer

This is not a portable speaker system and unlike some of the Bose does not have an internal battery to allow you to take it into the garden, etc.

One of the other answers assumes you are talking about the small CR2032 battery in the remote control unit which I've not replaced in over a year yet.
