Overview
Zeppelin Mini is an integrated speaker system from Bowers & Wilkins, makers of the speakers used to monitor the recording of much of the music on your iPod. B&W developed its iPod speakers with the same exacting standards as the speakers that are used in Abbey Road Studios and Skywalker Ranch.
Design
To compliment the iPod user interface, the docking port allows you to grasp your iPod or iPhone as if it were in your hand. It also cleverly accommodates iPod or iPhone models of differing depth through a spring-loaded docking arm that flexes to adjust automatically. The dock also rotates through 90 degrees.
Heritage
At Bowers & Wilkins, the quest to develop the perfect speaker has lasted more than 40 years. The designers are always mindful of the goal to create a speaker that portrays a musical performance exactly as it was recorded, with zero coloration.
Technology
Mini uses two newly developed, full-range, 3-inch glass fiber drivers whose uniquely slotted cone and very long-throw “motor” deliver unprecedented range and dynamics for so compact a transducer. B&W's advanced DSP technology maximizes the drivers' abilities to produce jaw-dropping loudness and fullness. And two leading-edge Class D (“digital”) amplifiers ensure plenty of power from ultra-compact, nearly cold-running circuitry.
Multi-purpose USB connection
The USB connection in the back of the unit allows for audio streaming from iPod via docking arm or from a Mac or PC via mini USB connection located on back of the unit. It also allows iPod/Mac/PC sync with iTunes (when Zeppelin Mini is in stand by mode). You can even use it for firmware upgrades with new iPhone/iPod releases.
Simple operation
Plug in Zeppelin Mini, place your iPod or iPhone on the docking port and hit the play button. The connections at the back let you play other sources through the unit. Easily change tracks, volume and mode with the pebble-like remote.

A Great Sound Machine
Written by SH from andover

It offers similar great sound as the original zeppelin but is cheaper and smaller, so it can be displayed easier. It has a design that stands out from the sea of dull, boxy looking ipod docks and is a breath of fresh air. I recommend this to people who have a tighter budget but are still looking for a great looking, and sounding machine …More

Won't fill a large room with sound like the original Zeppelin but is sufficient for smaller rooms. Just place it in a bookcase or near a wall to magnify the bass. The person who rated it one star should replace the batteries in his/her hearing aid. An excellent unit for those not interested in breaking a lease.

Great things come in small packages!

Very classy and elegant looking. Materials feel very rich and well put together. Sound quality is amazing through-out the volume range. I am very impressed with the sound no matter what genera of music I play; although I would have to say its bass is not the best seeing that it does not have a external sub. But the highs and mid are incredible! Keep in mind this is an all in one unit that really delivers! Watch out Bose because this one beats you hands down! …More

Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Mini
Excellent sound for what it is
Written by AH from Johnstown

I just purchased the Zeppelin mini today at my local Apple store. I had this and a Bose Sounddock Series II side by side playing The Ting Tings "That's Not My Name". It took all of one minute to make the Sounddock sound very hollow. The sleight of hand Bose pulls is not being able to do these types of side by side comparisons and now I know why. I have never been a fan of Bose to begin with, but the comparison was just night and day, starting with the fit and finish. The Sounddock looks like it is made from melted G.I.Joe action figures with a protruding dock that looks snapped on and actually does not fit correctly as there are gaps between the dock and main unit. Bass isn't bad in the Sounddock, but again, it just sounded like the speakers were in plastic drums (which I guess they are). The sound on the mini is very clean, produces excellent bass for the size, though it is not in the same class as the original Zeppelin (which I have proudly owned since Nov. 2007). As stated before, sound quality is excellent for the size, fit and finish is top notch, and as a 2.0 speaker for my television/PS3, it does admirably. The only sticking point, (though not a big one) is that the AUX and iPod will play at the same time, so if you want to listen to music and watch TV/play games at the same time, both will come through the Zeppelin mini at the same time, while not huge, I was not aware of this until I brought it home and hooked up the AUX cable to the TV. I updated the firmware, though I am still unaware of what it changed (I have read that it was to clean up the sound), if anyone knows directly and wants to respond to this review, I would appreciate it. In summary, the Zeppelin mini was an excellent purchase and while I am sure that some iPod docks sound at least as good for a cheaper price, the aesthetics, fit and finish, and sound quality make up for it. The only one I could find was the JBL OnStage 400p, but it screwed up my iPod to where I had to reset it, and the bass driver in it overpowers everything else, making the sound very muddy in my opinion, I also looked at the iHome iP1, but I wasn't impressed with it, nowhere near enough to drop $300 on it. …More
