Best $100 I've ever spent

I was warned that I would lose everything, which I did. I went to a few shops that specialize in Macs and told that they "might" be able to retrieve data and the cost would be several hundred dollars up to a thousand dollars just to "see" if any data could be retrieved. Luckily for me I waited.
I saw Data Rescue 3 at the Apple Store and was immediately attracted to the low price (only $100) and I figured I would give it a shot before deciding to spend big bucks at one of the specialized Mac stores. I installed the software and ran the program overnight. When I woke up it had found all the data that I was hoping to retrieve (all my pictures from iPhoto). The software worked beautifully and seemlessly.
Since i'm kind of computer illiterate I ran into a couple snags that were not the fault of Data Rescue. I was able to write a quick email to their support team and through a couple emails with Mike was able to resolve all my issues and I now seven years worth of data back.
I highly recommend this product. …

Fantastic... simply fantastic stuff!

Literally only about 4 of my 9000 files came back corrupted, and I'm talking about big files too (some > 10 GB).
One of the best features was that it was able to recover the original file name and directory structure. This was the only one that could do this (out of the 4 or 5 softwares that I tried).
I can't recommend this software highly enough! …

Buy this if you need - get it from the site - not the app store

This was a new librarycreated two weeks prior. I was sure I had most of the photos backed up but I knew the videos did not back up to photo stream so I was actually quite upset that I lost what was no more than 50 or 100 pictures and videos. That night I went online and downloaded a couple of Data recovery services but they didn't work so well. I didn't purchase them but when the option came up to recover them it was not easy-to-understand understand. I was then advised to try data rescue 3. For me it was simply a goal of getting the library back. I currently use a Macbook RP 15 inch with 16 gigs of memory and a 512 SSD so I thought the file is gone.
When I went on to the data rescue website I need to buy the version from the website as the version on the app store will not work with the operating system (its 40 more but worth it). The thing that was most interesting to me was there was a telephone number for tech support which is almost impossible to find today. If you do find it you're generally on hold for a long time before you can get somebody on the phone and then it's generally not very helpful. Somebody picked up within one minute of dialing and told me exactly what I needed to do. i bought software for $99 understanding there was no refund if it didn't work although the initial search that didn't include recovery did show my library in the tree as well as it being a 60 gig file so I was comfortable that this work. I accidentally downloaded the wrong software from the company for $99 and when I called the guy up asking how to run what i thought was the right software I downloaded he immediately gave me a proper serial number even though that was my mistake and there're no refunds on the software. That left me with a very good feeling to begin with. Then I run the software on my library and I was done. Complete and intact it restored it to my hard drive and I can't be happier. If you delete something try not to use your hard drive as I learned because he can overwrite the files by this software and use it. The photos were my three children many graduation pictures I thank you very much for such an incredible piece of software. I live in NJ and work in the financial industry - I'm not a robo reviewer - this is the real deal and a real heartfelt review. thanks guys. …

So happy with this app. This is a real review. I dropped an external hardrive with 2 years of my works files on it. Although when So happy with this app. This is a real review. I dropped an external hardrive with 2 years of my works files on it. Although when I plugged it in, it showed up, sometime during that day it stopped mounting at all, although the casing could be seen in Disk Utility and it was receiving power - the actual drive couldn't mount so disk utility couldn't do anything for it. It was friday night and I had only 2 days until I was supposed to deliver these files!
I downloaded the free trial version to see what it could do. Magically it could see the drive! It could do a deep scan but not a quick scan. This took about 10 hrs for about 500GB via USB 2. The deep scan compiled the files into folders of file type - not ideal for graphic design files, but better than nothing if the drive was totally dead. I tried recovering one file and it opened ok.
I really needed the file structure ideally - so after reading around I decided to try and clone the drive and then try some other applications on it that might repair its structure, I had read one report that mentioned their drive working after being cloned. I was looking for a cloning software when I read that this app can clone by itself! For a long time I couldn't find the cloning feature - it is hidden. You have to go to top menu and go View > Tasks - then scroll down. The clone feature is there. Note choose you clone target carefully! Cloning to a new disk image file is safest if you have no idea what you're doing. Read the file in the ? button carefully! Anyway although the software documentation said that the cloned hardrive would have the same problems as the original drive - when I opened my newly cloned disk image - everything was there in pristine condition. The cloning process took about 7 hrs and reported 3ooKb of 'bad data'. So I guess my actual data wasn't too badly corrupted - it was just the drive. So I can say 100% win on this software working for a non mounting drive by cloning to get the data off it. And if its really badly damaged it will still recover actual files individually using the deep scan, which is not too bad if thats your only option. …
