G-Technology 500GB G-DRIVE High-Performance Hard Drive
Has Become Unreliable!

I've had two of these drives for eSata work drives for my MacBook Pro and Desktop. First, the one connected to my desktop no longer shows up or works. It is going to driver savers. Thought maybe it was just something that happened. Now, my other one connected eSata to my MacBook Pro is showing regular Kernal panics when working in Final Cut Pro and when Firefox is open (for some reason). Haven't determined the cause and haven't lost data yet but it's feeling sketchy! I would recommend spending a few more $$ and going with the 500GB G-RAID if a work drive and then run your mirror back up at like 2am just to be safe. Hope that helps. …More

G-Technology 500GB G-DRIVE High-Performance Hard Drive
Not the cheapest, but maybe the best

There's a reason why Macworld gave this drive a rare five-star rating: on every level, it's a superior drive.
The sturdy aluminum case has a built-in heat-sink. making for low temperatures while accessing its 7200rpn drive. You have multiple options for storage, including USB2 and Firewire 800. The drive, visually, is a stunning work, ideal with both iMac or desktop systems. The warranty lasts for an impressive three years. And if you want to upgrade from 500gigs to 1tb, it's easy to upgrade drives (though this will, of course, invalidate the warranty). The only possible drawback: while hardly noisy, it's not as whisper quiet as my main computer.
There are lots of good drives. The G-Drive has a very strong reputation for reliability - among the best in the business. …More8 of 8 people found this useful
