Monster iCarPlay Wireless 800 FM Transmitter for iPhone and iPod
Piece of Garbage
Written by MR from Edmonton

I recently bought the Monster 800. I would say don't waste your time or money. This item works fine until you turn your engine. Once engine is running you get all sorts of interference. It sounds like a station that is not tuned in. Buzzzing sound makes it almost impossible to hear the music. I really wanted this for my Lotus. It it sounds worse in a 6 speed. Works slightly better in my two Acura'si which are automatics. It still sounds like a piece of garbage..
Apple should be more careful with who they partner with.
This product is a rip off. Avoid at all costs. …More79 of 102 people found this useful

To the person who wrote the review above, did you try a different radio station to tune into? I had this problem with mine, but I simply changed the channel and now it is working perfectly. …More

SUGGESTION

These transmitters work on MICRO RF power. a milliwatt or so....so you won't get much distance, which is basically rated in inches, not feet. I wish they would put that type of notation on the packaging and it would make things a lot easier on everyone. ANYWAY.... You absolutely, without question have to have this in a position in which the antenna for the car's in-dash radio can pick the signal up. If you take the part that shows the frequency ( which I believe also holds the micro-transmitter inside as well ) pick it up and move it around, you will see that static will come and go, depending on where you hold it. If your car has a antenna built into the front windshield, you will have more success at getting a clear signal than from a car that has the antenna mounted in the back. YOUR BEST OPTION is to be able to plug in the iPhone or iPod directly into the indash radio via some sort of auxillary port. You might have to purchase an external device to interface with your radio in order to do this, but, a direct plugin will, by far, produce the best audio. A trick you might want to try, if you absolutely want to utilize your FM transmitter, is to purchase a "Y" adaptor for your in dash radio and put a small radio antenna behind the dash in conjunction with the factory installed antenna. This will allow that antenna to easily pickup the signal from your Monster transmitter, but, could also cause some multipath issues with FM reception, or, if you listen to AM radio a lot, you could also pickup electrical interference from electronics or motors behind the dash as well.
IF the city or town you live in has a radio station that is located downtown and you frequent that area, no amount of antenna will help. The stations' transmitter will swamp the signal of your iPhone or iPod and will make it useless......100,000 watt transmitter vs. a milli-watt transmitter. Take a guess who will win. Even if you are on a "clear" channel, if the frequency of the big transmitter is close by, you can't win, and yes, it's perfectly legal....receivers can't handle all that power close-by, unless you have a really good radio...the receiver just gets swamped. Once again, another argument for the direct plug-in.

No good

bought this at Target, could not get it to work on my iphone or ipod without major static. tried practically every frequency on the dial. scan feature was useless to provide a clear station. Returned it, tried again, same result. Had a DLO one since my first ipod which has been perfect, but is not compatible for charging my iphone, and the station number screen doesn't work, but it is still way better than this one. This one in the Atlanta radio market anyway, is totally useless. …More
