How to Set-Up the Wireless feature
Written by RC from Elk Grove
Aug 28, 2009
When you are installing the software and you select one of the wireless options, it will then ask you for your WEP Security Key. Be sure to use the "Hex equivalent password (WEP key), a numeric number. Do not use your regular password. You can find the key in your Airport Admin Utility app.
Now the printer and scanner work perfectly - wirelessly!

HP Photosmart C4780 All-in-One Printer
Wireless driver not yet available for OS X 10.6
Written by GM from Lakewood
Sep 11, 2009
After reading the reviews, both here and on other sites, I was initially leaning towards the Canon PIXMA MP620 for my wireless printing needs. Before pulling the trigger, I decided to first go to the local big box store to check both out in person. My initial impression of the Canon was that it was very flimsy and seemed cheaply built. I put a sheet of paper in, put a postcard on the scanner bed, and pressed "copy". I was not impressed with the result. I then went over to the HP C4780 and did the same. The result was much better. Granted, I do not know if the print quality settings had been messed with, or how much ink remained in either printer (though I was given no "low ink" warning from either machine). The build quality and looks of the HP were more to my liking as well (though it is a little slick for my tastes).
Anyway, set up was going good until I received a message stating that the printer could not locate my wireless network. Anyway, long story short, the CD that is included with the printer is for OS X 10.4 and 10.5, and as of 9/11/2009, there is no OS X 10.6 driver available on the HP website. …More74 of 76 people found this useful

Great Choice!

The print, scan, and copy functions all work great IF you can get the device to work with your Snow Leopard 10.6 OS X. I originally installed this device without the included disc as I was told (and read) that OS X 10.6 had the driver included. Well, this is very true, BUT it is not that simple for those of us who just purchased a new Mac!
Since this device is being offered directly from Apple with a $100 off promotion many of us have purchased this printer with our NEW Mac. This means we had Snow Leopard pre-installed on our new Macs, therefore, common sense would tell us the driver should be already there...right? WRONG!
Well, I simply popped in the Mac OS X Snow Leopard disc - which comes with your new systems - and found out the reason we have been having so much trouble. The check box next to the printer driver selection was left UNCHECKED! I simply checked the box, reinstalled Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and the appropriate driver was there with gave me FULL functionality. You would think when they installed this OS update at the factory it would automatically be there...NOPE! The solution is easy folks...just pop in your disc and make sure to check mark the box!
The printer install after that (I did mine wirelessly - no USB) took all of 10 seconds. …More45 of 49 people found this useful

What?!
Written by JK from Bethlehem

This thing... it just doesn't work. First of all, the USB port is loose so that you have to push the cord in (even though it's in all the way) to make it recognize that it's connected to your computer. I am trying to scan something and it just doesn't work. I'm a college student and got this printer for $29 with a purchase of a MacBook Pro, but honestly, I would have kept my old HP printer (which also broke, by the way) in a heartbeat. Also, I've had Macs and all kinds of printers all my life, and I have NEVER had this much trouble before. …More

Awful! Not user friendly and HORRIBLE photos
Written by SS

Just spent a couple hours setting up this printer. What a pain! I'm a software engineer and very computer savvy and this product was a headache even for me. There is no way a novice would be able to get this printer working on a wireless network.
Not only is the setup a nightmare, but the printing quality is horrible. I tried printing a photo with the supplied HP paper and the color in the photo is washed out. Tried reprinting using Canon Photo paper and it looked better but far from "Print lab-quality photos" as it claims.
Time to pull my 6+ yr old Canon printer out of the trash and hook it back up. …More0 of 1 people found this useful

HP Photosmart C4780 All-in-One Printer
Horrible! Paper Jams Constantly! Don't buy!
Written by MB from Staten island
Dec 5, 2009
My advice is to go with another brand. A few years ago, with my Macbook, I purchased an HP printer with the rebate from Apple. That printer was great. So when I was inside the Apple store in New York the other day purchasing my 27inch IMac(excellent computer), the salesperson recommended this printer for its wireless capability. It's been a nightmare. First the computer would not, could not connect with the printer wirelessly. Then after four hours of toying with it and resetting and turning on and off, it finally started working...intermittently.
Finally, I got the darn thing connecting wirelessly and EVERY SINGLE PAPER thus far has jammed. I followed all of the instructions on the HP website along with the manual's, and nothing worked. I kept having to open the machine from the rear and pulling the paper out as instructed and then turning it back on and putting another page in only to have the same thing happen.
I only came to check the reviews to see if my issue was unique, and apparently it was not. Several other people have reported similar issues. Thanks to them and all consumers who take the time out to leave reviews, we can make a more informed purchase. As I previously stated, my last HP printer from 2006 was great. A workhorse for $99. HP got something wrong here and you should avoid this series.
I'm returning this to the Apple store tomorrow as I need my printer for business and can't deal with a defective item when it's literally brand new. …More0 of 1 people found this useful

Absolutely! It's worked great for me so far, no problems. Scanning wirelessly is pretty nice, though higher dpi (which increases the file size) files take longer to actually transmit. If you plan on doing super high res, you'll want the USB cable for sure. For anything 150 dpi or so it's just fine. No problems yet! …More
