Belkin TuneBase FM with Handsfree for iPhone
Would Not Recommend

I ordered the Belkin TuneBase FM with Handsfree for my Iphone. I have a vehicle with no cassette player, no auxiliary port and a manufacturer's stereo; so besides ordering a new stero my only option to play my Iphone through my speakers was the radio frequency option.
When I recieved the Belkin TuneBase FM with Handsfree for Iphone it was difficult to remove the item from the packaging. The item was bulky and did not fit well in my vehicle. Since it is plugged in to a lighter or A/C adapter it needs to fit pretty snuggly to avoid moving or twisting which it seemed to do okay.
The instructions were pretty simple and I was able to figure out how to mount my phone and turn the item on with no problem. The Belkin TuneBase FM with Handsfree for Iphone did indeed charge my Iphone as it had promised. That was about the only thing it actually followed through on.
I absolutely could not get my Iphone to play audibly through my speakers no matter how many different channels I tried. While I had no phone calls during this trial, I would imagine that if you could not hear your music playing there would be no way you could hear your phone calls, the handsfree way, as the item promised.
Basically the product did not perform the functions which it promised to do and for which I bought it. I feel like I payed for a highly overpriced, bulky phone charger. I absolutely would not recommend this product and the only reason it gets one star is because it did actually charge the phone and hold it in place. Otherwise this product was a complete waste of time and money.

Belkin TuneBase FM with Handsfree for iPhone
Almost Divine, especially if you enjoy static.
Written by JG from Diamond Bar

Belkin obviously put some thought into this product. The design and functionality of this unit is top notch. Everything is perfectly in place, easy to use, and intuitive. Far easier to use than getting it out of the package.
The quality though is another matter, it really feels like quality was sacrificed. The cables for the audio feel very flimsy, probably won't hold up to frequent use.
Additional faults, there is a ton of static. It seems like the unit isn't grounded properly, waving my hand near the iPhone changes the buzzing sound. It is like a cheap radio, that uses you as the antenna. Using the Pro Button helped increase the sound to my car audio, but still, a lot of static. I hand dialed in several stations beyond those suggested and that wasn't the issue.
I am disappointed and considering sending it back. To me this is unusable.

Belkin TuneBase FM with Handsfree for iPhone
One notch above aight.......

I do agree with one of the reviews, the packaging was ridiculous and frustrating to take out the device, I was afraid I was going to snap something off when I took it out.
It basically does what you expected, plays music just fine, pretty sleek mount for your car.....I'm only giving it 3 stars because there is considerable amount of static when listening to music, it goes from little static, no static, lots of static, but never NO static, basically inconsistent but it comes with the territory when you're mobile and driving around. I also listen to a lot of podcasts so the static is even more pronounced and noticable since it's just people talking. Making calls, there's also some noticable static.
I thought it was also a little pricey, I know it's a car charger too and a mount, but man it's 1/3 the price of the actual phone, I cringed a little when I bought it but overall pretty happy with it. …More40 of 48 people found this useful

Belkin TuneBase FM with Handsfree for iPhone
About what is to be expected with an FM transmitter
Written by JO from Lindsay
Nov 26, 2009
I purchased this primarily to use for hands-free calling in the car, as the new law recently came into effect in Ontario. The ability to listen to my music was secondary in my decision to purchase. I don't get many phone calls in the car, so I didn't want to be bothered to have to wear a bluetooth ear piece every time I got in the car. So, since I usually plug my phone into the car charger anyway, this seemed like a good compromise.
To preface, I drive a 2007 Subaru Impreza Wagon with the antenna integrated into the rear glass. About as far away from the cigarette lighter as possible. I live about 1.5 hours NE of Toronto, so the airwaves are still pretty crowded. I only found 2 channels that have no faint signal on them. (90.5 & 94.5 in case you're wondering)
The audio quality for phone calls is acceptable, but the volume must be kept somewhat low to prevent echo on the caller's end. Changing audio modes sometimes improves this. Also, callers say my voice sounds distant, but clear, which is the same complaint I notice for the visor mount bluetooth devices.
I agree music quality is not great, but that is more of a limitation of FCC/CSA regulations that limit the transmit power of these devices, so anything with an FCC/CSA sticker will have similar drawbacks. But there are times where it does sound about as good as any FM station I can pick up.
Honestly, if you were expecting anything more than "not quite as good as FM radio", you are being a little unrealistic. …More2 of 2 people found this useful

Belkin TuneBase FM with Handsfree for iPhone
Non-satisfactory
Written by JP from Newark

Yeah I bought this product three days ago and I quickly fell in and out of love with it almost instantaneously. It took forever just to get the thing out the box. There was just way too much static when I play my music and the quality of the sound is curiously subdued somehow. Plus when I talk to other people they say they hear an echo on their side. I'm definitely experiencing buyer's remorse right now. …More

No you don't need an AUX port to link to the stereo. The unit requires a cigarette lighter port to power it but transmits via FM frequency and is picked up by your car radio. …More
