Best accessory for my new MBP 17, BUT...

This is by far the best addition to my new MBP, the exterior texture is perfect. Not to rubber like, where it picks up all kinds of lint or dust particles, and when it does (very rarely), a simple swipe with your hand or lint free cloth gets rid of every spec of dust.
Installation was.... pretty much none....
This is really one of those product that you can pretty much install without the the manual. But do take a look at the video provided on Specks’ website. (It does make installation and removal a snap, quite literally).
Appearance once this was installed was great. I really like how it made the Apple logo on the back of the display a bit more subtle. (Does not scream MAC GEEK from a mile away)
One word of caution, the poly-carbonate material is very prone to generate static electricity. So, when slipping in and out of your favorite case/bag of choice. Take precaution as not to touch the left side of the notebook (where all your I/O ports and power port is located). I experienced a minor static shock directed into the Mag-Safe port, while retrieving my MBP out of my backpack. Though the static shock was minor, I was a bit concerned with the possibility of damaging the internal electronics (it didn’t).

After getting my MBP17 yesterday, I was totally paranoid of damaging the gorgeous finish of the naked product. This case couldn't be easier to install, cooler looking, fit better or provide more protection in less space for the naked finish of the MBP17. Best case I have ever had.

I have been a Mac Book Pro user for a few year now and have always had a Speck case on my Mac Book Pro. I thought it would be cool to use a new color and this is cool. It's not like the clear that are very smooth there's a surface feel that help hold on to the Mac Book. Was very quick to snap on and you can still see the Apple Logo on the front when the Mac Book Pro is on. Keeps the Mac Book Pro like new. …More

The 17" Macbook Pro is heavy to begin with. This case really makes a noticeable difference my gf pointed out. Not to mention the grip isn't that much better. I'm confused and feel gipped

Not as advertised: not rubbery, not grippy, poorly vented

Based on the advertised "soft touch" description I expected the case to have a rubbery soft outer layer over the hard plastic. It has nothing of the sort. It has a sort of matte texture on a hard surface that you can't sink your fingers into at all, and it is only slightly grippier than the smooth model of the case.
This is very annoying. The main reason I bought the thing was so that, with my small hands and rather weak grip, I could lift and handle my expensive, heavy 17" laptop safely. Fifty dollars is a fairly ridiculous price to pay for, essentially, two shallow trays made of unremarkable plastic, which do not even accomplish this modest objective.
The case should be better vented too. When I turn on the GEForce 9600 graphics card the computer heats up significantly and the case makes it worse. It provides very little venting. I intend to drill multiple small holes in the lower half of the case to compensate. What a disgusting waste of money and an irritating demand on my time. …More7 of 11 people found this useful

I've had this case for a couple of months now and I love the way it looks on it. It's so perfect and brilliantly made. The see thru makes the Apple very nice looking as well. I noticed on the other reviews complaining about how they got scratches on the sides and the base of their laptops. I was super worried this might have happened to mine so I removed the case and analyzed every square inch bottom and surface of the laptop for even the most minute scratch and found nothing at all.
