    The bag has a section for the laptop that keeps it in place with a strap. Outside of that area, there is plenty of room for schoolbooks and binders. There are also small compartments for credit cards or your mp3 player in this area. On the outside of the bag there are also two huge pockets that close off with a zipper.
    When the bag is full (with laptop and books) it is quite heavy and it does hurt my shoulder a little.
