Mophie vs. Incase
Written by RR from Germantown
May 3, 2009
I purchased both the Mophie Juice Pack Air (MJPA) and the Incase Power Slider (IPS) at my local Apple store with the intention of comparing them and returning one utilizing the 14-day return policy. The Mophie is the superior product in my opinion and I returned the Incase and here is why.
In terms of performance, the MJPA, was the clear winner (and isn't that what its about?). Although the MJPA has a 1200mAh battery as opposed to Incase's 1300mAh, the ability to turn on and off the recharge on the MJPA seems to actually provide more recharge due to a lack of continuous power transfer.
I noticed no degradation in speaker volume or clarity using the MJPA. The IPS muffled the speaker considerably. Similarly, the microphone is unencumbered by the MJPA but is grossly affected by the IPS. I made a few calls using speakerphone with both cases. My wife noticed no difference on the other end while using the MJPA but heard an "annoying echo" along with a loss of volume using the IPS.
Both cases add considerable bulk to the phone, however, the MJPA is smaller than the IPS.
This is purely subjective, but I feel the IPS beats the MJPA in aesthetics. I greatly prefer Incase's matte rubber finish. It has a much better grip and doesn't show all of the fingerprints and scratches that Mophie's smooth glossy finish can't help but show. It also has more front coverage to protect the shiny metal edge of the iPhone. I also prefer Incase's more discrete battery indicator on the back of the case.
With all of that said it comes down to this: I like the idea of both cases because they provide protection and about twice the battery life BUT, in shear performance the Mophie Juice Pack Air is clearly the superior product. It is smaller. It doesn't have any speaker or microphone problems and it provides slightly better battery performance. …More1061 of 1098 people found this useful

Finally!!!
Written by EG from Bloomfield

I've been using this for a few days now and I'm pretty happy with its performance so far. The Air adds more than 8 hours to my phone's usage, which is pretty good since I've been purposely using the phone more heavily to see how well the Air's charge holds up. With my normal moderate use, it will definitely last more than a day before I start using the iPhone's internal battery. It does take longer to charge both batteries together. If you have the chargers for the Air and iPhone with you, it's much faster to remove the phone from the case and charge them separately.
I do have a few very minor gripes with the Air. The bottom half's right edge does not line up perfectly with the top half's edge. The bottom one sticks out ever so slightly. It's just annoying since you feel the sharp edge while holding the phone at certain angles. Also, although the finish is shiny and beautiful, it makes handling the phone very tricky. I'm so afraid that the phone could easily slip out of my hands at anytime. With the extra weight and the slippery finish, I had to relearn how to hold the phone securely while typing in the vertical position. It would have been much better if the Air's finish came in either matte or rubbery or even leather. But these tiny gripes won't stop my from giving it 5 stars since I bought it more for the extra battery capacity. The full case and it's handsome look are all extras. …More298 of 326 people found this useful

More of a battery than protective case
Written by LR from Bloomington

For those frustrated by poor battery life of an iPhone I would recommend at least trying this. It does add mass and bulk to your iPhone. It nearly doubles the thickness, but remains comfortable in the hand. The two pieces of this unit fit nicely together. My 16GB iPhone is 4.7 ounces before adding the case, 7.1 ounces after. This definitely makes it heavier in your shirt pocket. I think if the case were silicon, instead of hard plastic, they would have something very protective. There's a toggle on the bottom of the case that allows you to use the battery or have it in 'standby'. The recess near the toggle for silent mode is a bit tight (awkward to do) when toggling back to 'ringer' mode. Despite this: Well made, well fitted and is useful in extending the run time of your iPhone.

really HOT
Written by CC from Campbellsville

Yeah, really IS hot. My Mophie Juice Pack Air get way too warm when in use. As a matter of fact, my wife's Mophie actually started to melt during the charging process. I contacted Mophie and they promisd me a return box for repair for mine. That was over two weeks ago and nothing yet. I plan on asking for a refund. I really don't want another one based on performance of these two. …More

I have the morphie juice pack, the Kensington batteries (both small and large types) and the Macally battery pack. This comes out tops for convenience (it fits as a csae as well as battery booster), style and sheer elegance. I have just ordered a second one today. CAUTION. I accidentally dropped my iPhone in its Juice Pack case and the top cover of the case has cracked - the battery still charges the iPhone but the crack catches my ear. Morphie should do replacement top covers to combat this scenario. …More
