I'm a musician, and sometimes I just want to wing it without having to set up a whole studio session. Mikey works perfect with my iPhone for all of my impromptu jams or whatever i want to record. I've also recorded a lecture and concert with this thing and they both turned out great. Glad to see the Blue quality has made it to their cheap stuff too! More

    Not worth $80

I recently purchased this for my iPod Touch. For those who are wondering, it does work with the touch and the voice memo apps. However, the speaker for playback is not as high quality as the iPod's built-in speaker, and mikey even emits a high pitched squeal during playback or when not recording. Recording quality is fine, but overall, this is something I would expect to pay about $20 for, not $80. For me, the recording capability was a necessity, and works great, but when I want to go back and listen, I take the Mikey out and listen to playback on the built in speaker. More

I've been using Blue's Mikey for about a month now, and I absolutely love it. The compact design makes it easy to take anywhere, and I'm constantly impressed by the quality of the recordings. The first thing I used it for was a loud rock show in the middle of a bar, using Apple's stock voice notes app and gain setting 3. I expected to get home and hear a bunch of garbled sound, bad conversations and clipping, but actually found a pretty good recording of the band I'd seen (Good enough to listen to in the car that week, anyways). Having passed this first test, I decided to try out one of the apps made to record on an iPhone, and had at it. I managed to get 6 tracks, including a saxophone, guitar and piano, along with some hand percussion on a desk. Again, I set my expectations low, this being an iPod mic and all, and came away extremely impressed. A friend of mine even asked for the recording to sample for some of his own work. Now, I'm only limited by my imagination with what I can do with Mikey. I think next I'm going to record some city noises and chop them up into a beat. The possibilities are endless. Great product, and highly recommended, though I did notice a few things. The Apple Store says it only works with iPods, but I have an iPhone 3G and it works fine. Also, whenever it is plugged into the iPhone, it gives a prompt to turn on airplane mode. I'm not sure if this is a feature by the designers, meant to ensure no calls interrupt your recordings, or just an Apple thing, but it isn't a problem in any way; you can record in or out of airplane mode. Again, a great product, and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a good, portable microphone. More

    great mic but...

    Written by MP from loveland

this mic records in mono not stereo on the 5th generation Ipod nano. Maybe because of the design of the nano. the settings on the mic do reduce spl's showing it is hooked up correctly, but does not record in stereo on 5th gen Ipod nano More
