Intego ContentBarrier X5
ContentBarrier X5 sets up a protective wall around your computer. Its pre-defined filters let you choose what you don't want your children to see and you can create your own custom filters as well. Inappropriate web sites are blocked, shielding your children from content they are too young for.

really good !

All parents should have this software, I have 2 kids and have set each child different access according to what I think they should be allowed to view. I have also blocked video play and peer to peer as I don't want either of them looking at videos or downloading stuff they shouldn't. You can also see a report of each website visited and if they have tried to visit and blocked sites which is really good.
Also something I've found really good is you can limit the amount of time they are allow to be on the internet on any day at any time. I have set them both up so they can go on in the evening when they get home from school but only for 1 hour max - the software just stops them accessing any longer. Its really useful to have because I don't have to keep checking that they are spending lots of time on the web.
The program does a pretty decent job of filtering inappropriate website as well as adds more fine control access compared to Apple's Parental Controls

Improvement over x4
Written by PF from Southfield

When I got my new iMac, I decided to upgrade from x4 (of which I let expire) to x5 of Content Barrier for the filter. The improvement over x4 enormous. For one thing, you now can integrate into search engines like Yahoo and Google so the preferences cannot be overridden. This allowed me to get rid of the secondary filter I had just for search engines. I am still trying to adjust the settings for that though.
The interface has changed and needs getting use to, but I like that the allowed and blocked sites are now on two different tabs. …More14 of 17 people found this useful

Nice interface but often does not work properly
Written by CG from Atlanta

I use Intego's antivirus package and am generally happy with it so decided to buy this package to enhance parental controls on the macs of my kids.
Though the interface is nice and relatively simple the product has practically rendered the machines useless:
1. The internet on off toggle usually disappears and when it does my kids cannot control when they need access to the internet
2. E-mail does not work most of the time even when enabled
3. The internet often does not work at all
As a result I usually have to turn the package off leaving my kids with the very basic parental controls that come with the mac.
Don't get the package until they are more reliable. …More2 of 2 people found this useful
