Pricey but in all worth it,however to access Blu-ray functions you need to install a plug in from the Roxio website;this is an additional cost! The additonal cost starts at $20 and has additonal features that can run up to an additonal $45 bucks;again, no problem but the HD plug-in did not install properly;missing info! Oh, well! …More

A Waist
Written by RP from Rotterdam

300 words?? it's hardly worth 3 words. For years I used Roxio Creator on my PC to make terrific slideshows and from the information on the Roxio site I cloud only conclude that Toast 10 PRO would give me at least the same possibilities on my Apple. Well it does not, so I have decided to reinstall my PC and Roxio Creator to get the slideshow results I am used to. Alas, the price I had to pay for this Toast product is lost. …More

Great - for what I use it for
Written by ET from Greenville

I bought this program to do one thing, really -- to make High Definition discs from my HDV tape recordings. At this it exceeds my expectations, even if I did have to pay $20 more to download the HD authoring plugin.
I edit HDV video in iMovie HD (2006) and drop the resultant AIC files into Toast 10. I use the "Blu-ray" authoring feature to write AVCHD files to conventional single- or double-layer DVD's using the Pioneer DVD drive which came with my Mac Pro (I don't have a Blu-ray burner.) When played in my Panasonic Blu-ray player, the video from these discs looks exactly (to me) like the HDMI output from the camera.
Apart from the fact that it works, my favorite feature about Toast 10 is that it makes smart use of my computer. My Mac Pro has eight processor cores, but few of the programs I run can make use of them to speed execution. (iMovie and iDVD do not use more than two cores. I hear other editors, except Final Cut Pro, are the same.) When transcoding, Toast 10 uses 600% of CPU resources, according to iStat. (Only Handbrake has used more when I've been watching.) Does this mean Toast 10 is written in 64-bit code? I wish I knew.
The other features of Toast 10, and the gaggle of programs included on the disc, I don't use. (The DVD menu authoring is primitive, and how many ugly menu templates does one need?) I am nonetheless delighted that it does what I bought it to do, it seems to be the cheapest and easiest way to do it, and it works more quickly and efficiently than I had anticipated. …More20 of 23 people found this useful
