Seems ok - initial formating instructions are wrong for Mac OS

Written by JZ from Baldwin Place

Device ships NTFS formatted. Instructions say to utilize the partitions section of the Disk Utility, press 'Options', then go from there. You actually need to choose "Partition 1" before pressing Options. This creates/replaces a new partition over the "Current" one.

Once that was done, the initial 40G backup took about 20 minutes.

    Nice little drive.

I would disagree that this drive is slow or that USB 2.0 is too slow, but I did have some initial problems. I did have issues formatting it, and after some perseverance it stuck (read the instructions on formatting for mac). I then went to copy 2.6GBs as a test and it told me 50 minutes remaining. I unmounted the drive, then remounted. I copied over 60 MBs in a couple seconds. I then copied over the initial 2.6GB in a minute. Everything seems quite good now! More

    1TB Iomega external drive

    Written by LN from Dallas

If I could actually hear the difference between Digital Audio Tape and a CD, I might be able to say that USB 2.0 is too slow. Too slow for WHAT? If it takes another of seconds for a file to load, that fouls up your day? This is a wonderful drive - connected to my MacBook and EyeTV and AirPort Extreme to record and play video files, projects, and movies. And it does so as fast as I need it to. After all I'm not going to perform another task in the next few minutes. Take a breath. Enjoy this little wonder of a 1TB external drive. Unless your writing the control code for a mission to another planet, this drive is great. More

this drive is perfect (minus initial setup)

    Written by MA from Burlington

    Dec 4, 2009

I purchased my drive about 6 months ago and after resolving the issue for formatting it for a Mac, it seamlessly operates with my system. I rarely notice it as an external drive.

I read others comments about slow performance and tested my drive to see. I have no issues with transfer rate. I tried copying a 35 Gb folder from the external to main HDD – total time 43 minutes. Maybe not blazing fast, but very doable for my needs.

Unless your use is high-end work, this drive is perfect (minus initial setup). I have > 13,000 digital photos, > 100 hours of home video, and I move the files back and forth without any hiccups.

    It's really slow

This drive is too slow for production usage but is fine for backups and/or archiving. Does what it says and its stable. It's also cheap for the amount of storage you get. More

    Problem free

Does what I want. Have not had any of the speed problems mentioned by other reviewers, either on its HFS+ partition or its NTFS partition that I use for write support with boot camp. So maybe it is a configuration issue. No other troubles after 6 months of use either. More
