Superb quality digital TV recordings

DVR convenience
Thanks to the included EyeTV 3 software, EyeTV Hybrid is also a digital video recorder (DVR) with a comprehensive Program Guide and editing capabilities. It's a DVR that can put your television recordings on a Mac, iPod, iPhone or Apple TV with one easy click of a buttons. What's more, EyeTV Hybrid receives FM radio. All this, in one small TV tuner stick.
Made for the Mac
Its clean lines, matte aluminum finish and surprisingly small size make EyeTV Hybrid an ideal accessory for the Mac. It features a USB 2.0 interface and requires no external power supply. EyeTV Hybrid also has a standard F connector and doesn't require an antenna adapter.

Elgato EyeTV Hybrid
This product is awesome!
Written by LC from Baltimore
Mar 26, 2009
I was initially hesitant about buying this, so I wanted to let people know how cool it was. I've hooked up my PS3 to my iMac (2006, 2 GHz, 2 GB ram) and it works amazingly (but only standard-definition). I can play my games with no lag and use my iMac as a TV. But it's even better than that. It picks up local radio stations. It picks up local TV stations without any wires (and I'm sure it will do the cable TV stuff once I hook it up) and I can watch and record full HD-quality TV shows right onto my mac, and then easily edit out commercials and archive them. Basically, if you'd like to watch HDTV, but don't have $400 - $2000 right now to spend on a nice tv, but have a nice mac screen, it's an excellent product …More

Great device once you get it to work
Written by CM from Nashville
Apr 8, 2009
We just purchased the EyeTV Hybrid 2009 yesterday, and I spent most of the night trying to get the device itself to work. I updated the software to version 3.1.1 (4907), ran system utilities and still, when I would plug it into the USB port, NOTHING! Searching the web for a possible solution, I came across someone who, after having the same problem I did, "heated" the device in the oven and "poof" it worked (not sure how they got the idea). I heated mine just long enough for the device to get hot, not burn your skin hot, but hot (a few minutes). I let it cool for 2 minutes, plugged it into the USB port and it worked! Not sure what heating the device does, but it worked for at least two of us! This is a wonderful device for watching T.V. and listening to the FM radio from your system. I gave it 4 stars because I am not the only person to have this problem, which translates to "known issue", but otherwise I am very happy! …More

Great for TV watching
Written by JL from Morris
Apr 11, 2009
I'm very happy with the fact that I can now watch television on my iMac, however, the image quality is very poor. I initially bought the EyeTV Hybrid to use my Wii on my iMac, which actually works great, but the sound quality is horrible. So, if the quality of what you see and hear is a big issue, don't buy this product, otherwise it fulfills its purpose well. …More

Elgato and EyeTV Review
Written by BS from London
Dec 7, 2009
I bought this product mainly for just watching TV on my mac. I then found out that
I was also able to connect my xbox 360 console to my 24" screen which became a perk for me. The quality isn't that great through composite video, but it still worked fairly well.
My only concern is that I had to update my version of Eyetv software recently (v2.0) and it has a feature that allows you to rewind live TV. This significantly reduces the performance of the software, and prevents my xbox console from being playable anymore as there is far too much lag. Previous to v2.0 it worked great.
Im running OS X 10.6.2, and the older versions are not compatible so I can't downgrade.
I have not found a way to disable this feature in the new software interface and this may be a factor to anyone considering this product in the future.
This product gets 4/5 stars because the hardware works great but the software is lacking. …More5 of 5 people found this useful

Great Product & Great iPhone App
Written by RC from TORONTO
Dec 7, 2009
This product works amazingly. It was so easy to set up onto my 27" iMac and runs without a flaw. Another great advantage is the EyeTV App for the iPhone, which allows me to sync my EyeTV on my Mac to the EyeTV app on my iPhone. Now from work (wifi) I can watch live TV, set my EyeTV at home to record shows or even watch previously recorded shows from home on my iPhone. Great all around package! …More

with this product, is it possible to play a games console. ie xbox 360 through it? and am i required to by something like an aerial lead aswell?

Best Answer
Yes, you can connect game consoles to an EyeTV to view on your Mac's monitor/screen. You will need the game console's composite or S-video cable to connect to the EyeTV hardware. Component or HDMI (hi-def connectors) will not work. In the EyeTV software, you will need to put it in Game Mode. Review the EyeTV manual for more info.
An aerial lead may be required if you want to watch regular TV on your Mac, either over-the-air (antenna) or cable input. …More- Answered by RH from Chula Vista

What is the difference between this and the more expensive Eye TV?

The EyeTV 250+ uses hardware compression, making it the best choice for older, non-Intel Macs. You can generally get better quality results with hardware compression especially when converting old VHS to digital.
The EyeTV Hybrid adds an FM tuner and is more compact, not requiring an external power source. …More- Answered by ER from Palo Alto
